With a focus on paintings, new media and special topics, my artworks derive artistic characteristics from these three categories. Hypertexts (quick links) are transformed into works that focus on the topics. As a result, these topics mostly consist of night scenes and subjective lighting, similar to the aesthetics of negative films. This has been my direction of study from 2009 to the present - expanding my understanding of new things and knowledge in life through the subject matter of my artwork to study, create, and record my own history of transformation in painting.
The book, The Wonder of Man, discusses the visuals we experience now – the light-sensitive visuals: I imagine the sensitivity of vision waiting to sense light. Applying a mobile phone lens and programming code to reverse the colors, I look down on the composition of dots made by city lights at night. The white sunshine mostly becomes blue when the color is reversed. Looking down at the city at night from a high vantage point, more multi-color light dots appear, becoming the composition code with twinkling lines and surfaces.
Using the perspective of a bird’s-eye view to observe the nighttime of light dots alterations, I applied the color-reversing code of mobile phones and twin displays (the painting and the filming mobile phone screen) to keep the sense of technology in the works hidden, revealing a glimpse of visual sensibility and where the phone lens begins and ends. Through the slight glimpse of technology, the material sequence and aesthetic experience of a color reversal translate the painting’s light, medium, and dark into a visual dark, medium, and light.
